An Artistic Eye On The City Of Glasgow
Glasgow is the largest, and most lively, city in Scotland with exciting opportunities for shopping plus an amazing night scene. For the more artistic tourist there are many places to sit and relax in Glasgow's West End which has tea rooms, bars, cafés, boutiques, clubs and restaurants as well as some interesting bed and breakfast accommodation in Glasgow. In the article which follows I will describe 3 tourist attractions in Glasgow which should be especially interesting to those who enjoy all things artistic; the House For An Art Lover, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum and the Burrell Collection:
Burrell Collection
In 1944, The Burrel Collection was gifted to the city of Glasgow by Sir william and Lady Burrell and the collection can be viewed at Pollok Country Park which is in the south of the city of Glasgow This beautiful collection of art works includes more than 9,000 pieces. The collection is very diverse containing a selection of modern artistic sculptures plus a collection of Islamic art. Visitors can view works of art by artists such as Degas and Cezanne. As well as paintings and sculptures you is able to enjoy the beautiful collections of English furniture, alabasters, stained glass and tapestries. As well as all this, the Burrell Collection also exhibits an incredibly important collection of art from the medieval period plus collections from ancient Egypt and China.
The House For An Art Lover
The House For An Art Lover is one of the most popular attractions in Glasgow. The house is of an Art Nouveau design designed, originally, by Glasgow's most famous architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh plus input from his incredibly talented wife, Margaret Macdonald.

Originally the design was an entry for a 1901 competition to draw up a design for a 'House for an Art Lover', but, the entry by the Mackintoshs' was disqualified on the grounds that it was submitted late. Luckily, more than one hundred years later the house is located in Bellahouston Park thanks to the hard work of the engineer Graham Roxburgh and architect Professor Andy Macmillan. Building started in 1989, halted for a short amount of time but resumed again in 1994 thanks to the collaboration between the Glasgow City Council and Glasgow School of Art.
The Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum
One of Scotland's finest museums and art galleries, the Kelvingrove Art Gallery is where one of the greatest civic art collections in Europe is housed, but also it has been voted one of the most popular free to enter attractions in Scotland.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum is sited on the banks of the River Kelvin, in the West End of Glasgow, on Argyle Street. The gallery was constructed in a Spanish Baroque style using the traditional red sandstone. It was designed by Sir John W. Simpson and E.J. Milner Allen and opened its doors to the public in nineteen hundred and one. The collections in the museum were originally from the McLellan Galleries and the old Kelvingrove House Museum in Kelvingrove Park.
