The city of Cardiff is not only the Welsh capital city, but also the most popular tourist destination in Britain besides England's capital city of London. Cardiff is also the largest city in Wales, however the city was only only a rather small town until it reached the early eighteen hundreds. Though Cardiff has been a city for only 100 years, surprisingly a castle has been at the site for 2,000 years, or thereabouts. The Cardiff Castle which is currently there is one of the city's most popular attractions which can be found in the very middle of the city centre. It is possible for tourists to go on a guided tour throughout the castle's interior, and, take a relaxed walk around the stunningly picturesque gardens of the castle. At the castle there is also a newly opened Interpretation Centre which displays the different development stages, of the castle, across the ages from the Roman period right up to the present age.
The city of Cardiff also has a fair number of modern tourist attractions including the highly fascinating Techniquest, one of the United Kingdom's finest centres for Science Discovery. At the Science Discovery centre folk will find in excess of 100 hands on exhibits, designed to fascinate and entertain all age groups. The centre has a hi-tech Science Theatre, a laboratory, a planetarium and a Discovery Room.
There are many many more attractions to see in Cardiff, so, if you and your family are currently thinking about taking a vacation there it is incredibly important that you reserve your rooms as early as possible as, sadly Cardiff hotels and guest houses tend to be alarmingly busy and are often fully booked months in advance. If your family is large you may find that Cardiff apartment accommodation turns out to be a less expensive alternative by comparison with bed and breakfast accommodation.
